Hi, my name’s Paul. I’m a student studying at Strathclyde Business School in Glasgow. When I was 14, I started strimming land for local businesses, and ever since, I’ve been working, gaining experience, and trying things out. I’ve been making work for myself ever since, and absolutely loving it!
I started University three years ago now, and I’ve been shocked by the attitude to work that a university life fosters. I’ve done internships with large enterprises, competitions, and applied for jobs with interesting, smaller companies as well. All of them felt like they were clumsy fits into student life, and there were always issues that prevented me from dedicating to the job the way I wanted to.
In February 2024, I started my own business – Consultico. As a marketing and entrepreneurship student, I stuck to what I was good at, and started a marketing agency. We work closely with our university, do practical, course-relevant work, and make money whilst doing it. We’ve started building up connections with local businesses, and we’re working towards a vision of getting students experience, money, and proper, professional development.
I’ve started this blog to share my experience and views working for myself, stories about my start-up journey, and other interesting things I’ve found along the way! I’m looking forward to sharing this all with you, and I hope you enjoy following along.

I never used to be confident. I didn’t particularly appreciate how I looked and spent more time than I care to admit trying to blend in with the background. The way that I dressed tended to reflect this as well. Loose, plain clothing, hoodies and…
